The Best Non-Toxic Laundry Detergent

What’s the best non-toxic laundry detergent for your family?

After digging around on the EWG site looking at common laundry soaps, most contain horrific ingredients. I decided it was time to make a switch.

I spent days upon days researching what could work for our family.

We do a LOT of laundry with 6 people living here.

There are a few name brands of laundry detergent that have clean ingredients but many were very expensive.

I spent time reading through these brand’s ingredients and writing them down. They all looked very similar.

Finally, I found some laundry detergent that was affordable and used the same clean ingredients.

Best Non-Toxic Laundry Detergent

Switching to a natural laundry has been on my mind for quite a while but I finally pulled the trigger.

A lot of the plant-based non-toxic laundry detergent that was liquid-based got reviews of gumming up washers.

From what I was reading, the powder was best.

After reading hundreds of reviews and researching all of the ingredients I decided to go with Nellie’s Laundry Soda.

It seemed like a lot of costs initially but this one bucket does 400 loads of laundry!

The price of Nellie’s Laundry Soda flexes a little on Amazon but it comes out roughly $.10 cents per load.

That’s so cheap!

I just use one tablespoon right in the washer on the clothing and so far it’s been amazing. My towels are whiter and my clothes are very clean.

It has even cleaned some of the gunk out of my front load washer.

My favorite part about the laundry soap (aside from the low cost per load) is that it’s unscented.

I don’t have to worry about toxic fragrances giving me a migraine.

My clothes just smell clean.

What do I use for the dryer? Definitely not those stinky dryer sheets.

All Natural Dryer Sheet Alternative

I am very sensitive to chemicals and fragrances so those stinky dryer sheets always give me a headache.

I don’t even want toxic chemical fragrances on our clothing.

Bounce and Downy dryer sheets get some of the worst ratings you can find.

SnugPad Wool Dryer Balls have been amazing to use so far.

They soften the clothes and cut way back on the dryer time since the clothes are moved around so much.

Our clothes have been less wrinkly and dry faster.

I will never go back to dryer sheets when I can use these instead.

If you miss the fragrance, you can add a few drops of essential oils to these dryer balls for a hint of fragrance.

It’s a smart way to customize how you want your laundry to smell. Unscented just works best for us since I have histamine issues already.

Finding Non-Yoxic Brands for Your Home

I did find a few other non-toxic laundry detergents with clean ingredients but they were more expensive and most of them were liquid.

9 Elements Laundry Detergent got some decent reviews but not as many as the brand I ended up with. It’s also made with vinegar and my husband hates that smell.

Overall I’m extremely happy with the Nellie’s Laundry Soda and will be sticking with it for the future.
